Becky’s depth of experience allows a unique and soulful perspective regarding the treatment of young autistic children. Her professional experience began in 1980. For 25 years, she has witnessed a dramatic increase, not only in the rate of incidence, but also in the myriad of therapeutic techniques available to treat Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Helping parents and professionals make decisions about treatment is one of the ways in which Becky provides consultative services in the field.
Since each child with ASD is so unique, Becky assists parents to view treatment approaches with careful consideration. She feels that autism should be embraced and understood primarily on a soul level, given a keen awareness of the ASD child’s perception of their world guiding each therapeutic decision. This perception occurs primarily via the brain’s sensory processing systems. These systems can be especially perplexing in the ASD child. Becky helps sort out some of these mysteries and her warm and generous ways help families heal. She has been extensively trained in the DIR (Floor Time) model, a methodology based upon the work of Dr. Stanley Greenspan. For more information about this model, visit Dr. Greenspan’s site at www.floortime.org.
Becky is especially interested in helping families that have more than one child with autism. If you are concerned about your new baby because an older sibling has ASD, Becky can help answer some of your concerns.
Becky has an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, a graduate degree from Hunter College – CUNY, and doctoral training at the University of Illinois at Chicago. To contact Becky for a free initial consultation, click here.
